Inwood Community Boathouse
A waterfront project in New York City has a rich history to draw inspiration from. Dutch New Amsterdam constructed canals, while the British colonists began a lasting trend of wharfing and filling out land into the surrounding water.

This project draws from NYC's history of waterfront development, as well as the narrative of the working waterfront of the Longshoremen.

As a spatial composition, two parallel boathouses face a new canal for launching boats. The boathouses are anchored by a landscaped earthen mound, created from dredged canal fill and situated to maximize the visual experience of both the waterfront activity of the canal and the boat races on the river.
